I found this list somewhere online and thought it was fun so here it is:

1. On average, scalp has 100,000 hairs. Redheads have the least hairs – 85,000; blondes are the richest with 130,000; brown and black haired people have about 100,000.
2. 90% of scalp hairs are growing and other 10% are resting.

Highlights are one of the biggest requests by my clients. If you ask any number of them why you will probably get a list similar to this which I came across on Hair Boutique

Highlights can be fun but overall should give you a natural beautiful look. Big stripes in exact intervals just does not say natural, done right they should be irregular in size, width and spaced in a way that isn’t exact.

A good hairdresser will have a sound understanding of how to blend and weave a natural pattern to create a finish that radiates and brings life to your appearance. Less highlights is key to making this happen.

Make sure you go to someone who specializes and is a professional at coloring. This is something you want to make sure is done right. Plus if you have any questions there is no better person to ask then a pro. They will usually have suggestions that will really fit your look the best.

It’s also a good idea to bring some photos but don’t expect to get an exact copy because every one has a unique look and your stylist can take the idea and make it fit you and give you a look that you will really love.

Hottie Hair: Las Vegas; All About Straight Hair

If you have been blessed with fairly straight hair, then you are lucky and the envy of many women (myself included). Thick hair that is mostly straight, with maybe a slight wave is usually the easiest hair to style. Your natural wave loves to be curled and styled, and yet is easy to straighten and looks fabulous worn straight.

Women with tight curly hair, or fine, dead straight hair that has little body and refuses to hold curl (yes, that’s me!) struggle to style our hair at times.

If your hair is not quite as straight as you want it, you have some easy options to temporarily straighten your hair: straightening products, hair dryer or straightening iron.

If your hair is really not straight and you want to get rid of your curl permanently (well, at least 6 months), you have the option of professionally straightening your hair.

HOW TO BLOW DRY HAIR STRAIGHT

Blowdrying your hair straight is definitely the cheaper option to permanently straightening your hair – all it takes is a few tools and products and a bit of practice.

WHAT DO I NEED?

- A hairdryer

- A large round brush. The size of the brush will depend on the length of your hair – your hair needs to be long enough to wrap around the brush once.

- A large paddle brush for final smoothing.

- Clips to keep hair out of the way. Large flat clips that hairdressers use work best.

- Styling products – products that protect your hair from moisture and hold the style. Moisture is what reverts the hair back to its natural wave, so products like mousse protect hair from moisture as well as heat damage.

- Gloss or serum to smooth over hair, remove frizz and finish off the look

Start by washing your hair with a volumising range. Browse our Volumising range.

Comb with a wide-toothed comb to remove any tangles. Partially blow-dry your hair to get rid of excess moisture.

Spray a volumising tonic on your hair, or a handful of mousse spread from tips to ends for extra oomph.

Pin hair up and take out small sections at a time to blow-dry. Hold the dryer in one hand and a styling brush in the other.

Place the brush underneath the first section of hair and position it at the roots. Keep the tension on the hair (without tugging too hard) and move the brush down towards the ends, while directing the air flow down the hair, following the movement of the brush.

Blow-dry using a large, round brush with a metal core. Wind hair completely up the brush, focusing on creating lift at the roots. Gently blast hair with a hair-dryer until dry.

HOW TO USE A STRAIGHTENING IRON

WHAT DO I NEED?

- A temperature controlled straightening iron

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Also start with clean, DRY hair. If possible, use a leave-in conditioning spray after washing your hair, but before starting to straighten.

Hair must be completely dry, as slightly damp hair will respond badly to straightening. Also using a heated appliance on damp hair causes the hair to “cook” from the steaming, swelling the hair shaft and forcing the protective moisture from the cortex of the hair.

Use a flat iron appropriate for your hair length. Wider irons are suitable for very long hair, but most women are better off using an appliance with heating plates 1″ to 1 ½ ” wide. These smaller irons offer better control and are lighter in weight.

Section your hair into small, manageable sections. If you try and straighten a big chunk of hair at once, you will get an uneven result. The hair on the outside might straighten but hair in the middle won’t have been straightened. Work on smaller sections and you will get a much straighter look.

Use a small amount of styling product to maintain the style. Using a spray of hairspray on the straightened sections, or a small amount of mousse or gel when drying your hair, will extend the life of your hair style. Your straightened hair will last longer.

INSTRUCTIONS

Take a small section of hair. Starting at the roots, work the flat iron through the length of your hair slowly, but keep the iron moving.

After each draw, comb your hair smooth.

Continue, piece by piece until all of your hair is straight.

PROFESSIONAL HAIR STRAIGHTENING

PERMANENT STRAIGHTENING

What is it? It’s a perm that improves the condition of the hair as it straightens it. There are a few names for it – Bio Ionic Professional Haircare System, Japanese Ionic Hair Straightening – yet they are all the same.

How does it work? First a treatment to prep your hair. Next, a setting solution. Then a rinse and light dry off before hours of flat-iron work. After this, you have straight hair. They rinse again and apply a solution so your hair remembers to stay straight. A quick dry off and iron and you’re done. But no washing your hair for two days.

What hair types are (most) suitable? Those with thick, healthy, unbleached hair are the best candidates.

Which hair types are not suitable? Fine, weak or dry hair or hair that is overly processed/colored. However there are lotions that cater to variations in strength and thickness, meaning those with fine but strong hair can still get the treatment.

How long does it take? Usually about five hours. If the hair is very thick, curly or long it can take up to 10 or 11 hours.

How much does it cost? It can range anywhere from $150 to $1000 depending on the salon and the particular solutions being used (ie Bio Ionic is more expensive than Japanese solutions)

Some quick-fixes include using permanent straighteners and relaxers- most of which you can find in supermarkets and drug stores to apply in your own home.

A relaxer is best suited for people who have hair that is especially difficult to style. This usually applies to people of African or Caribbean descent who have coarse and frizzy hair. The relaxer is a strong chemical substance that is applied to dry hair and then left on the hair anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. The relaxer works chemically with the composition of your hair, weighing it down in certain areas and removing curls. Relaxers must be reapplied to new hair growth.

It has come to my attention that a lot of women out there do not know how to color their own hair at home properly after reading this article on this lady Charlotte Feeney who sued L’Oreal Inc after her accidently colored her natural blonde hair to dark brown. Supposedly she claimed that the tube was filled with the wrong shade and it was not her error. Come one people, almost all DIY hair coloring kits from the major brands like L’Oreal and Garnier all come with instructions that need to be followed exactly and usually the first two steps are an allergy test and a strand test.

These two tests will make sure you are will not have an allergic reaction to the solution and allow you to see how the color will most likely look on your hair. It is surprising how many women I have asked say they skip these steps. Women should definitely go through with these steps. With so many different colors to choose from, a strand test can really help you decided if that is really the color you want because depending on natural hair color, it might not come out just like the sample on the box.

Hottie Hair: Las Vegas; LDS Auction a place to Buy and Sell

I came across a site that I think would be of interest to the LDS Community. LDSauction.org is a place for latter day saints to buy and sell goods of any type. It looks to be a fairly new site. One of nice things is there are no fees to list your items. Once you do list an item if it doesn’t sell by auction end you can chose to automatically relist your unsold item. If your selling alot of stuff that can save you countless hours of relisting items. Also a huge plus is that comission for selling and item is only 5%, and 1% of that goes to a great cause, an educational program called the perpetual education fund. I don’t know of any othe site that donates 20% of revenue to charity. Take a look and tell me what you think. Is this something you would use?

Women who have thin hair look at those with thick tresses and wish they had hair like that, but those with that really thick hair sometimes struggle to get good looks with so much hair to work with. To those with thin hair it may sound amazing but too much hair can actually be hard to style and weigh itself down so you do not look your best.

Of course for women who have this problem the solution is very simple and that it thinning. For these women a pair of hair thinning shears in the hands of a skilled stylist can mean getting the easy to manage looks that will have them appearing their absolute best. Thinning shears are specially designed to remove only some of the hair with each cut to do exactly as the name applies, to thin the hair out. Japanese Hair Straightening

You may keep hearing about Japanese Thermal Hair Straightening and wonder what it is exactly and if it would be a good idea for you to use this method to straighten your hair. The Japanese straightening method uses a combination of chemicals and professional hair straighteners to permanently remove the curl from hair. This of course will only work on the hair that is on the head so as hair grows out that hair will not be straightened. This means that this process will need done about twice a year if you would like to keep this look going.

This process is not one that can be done at home and the cost can easily be $600, so convenience is not a word that describes this chemical treatment. Much like a reverse perm with heat applied by a hair straightening iron included this is not a process you would want to sit through often. If you live in Las Vegas and are interested in having this process done please contact me. I use a Thermal Hair Straightening product and process which is 100% effective as the Japanese Thermal Hair Straightening process but cuts costs to half as much. The reason I can do this is because the Thermal Hair Straightener product I use cuts the time down to about 3 hours as opposed to 6 hours. It looks like this fall celebrities in Hollywood are getting bob haircuts that touch the nape of their neck and then are applying great texture to them. These slightly longer bobs are perfect for adding soft waves in with a hair curling irons. Hold your curling iron vertically and wrap small sections around them to curl for about five seconds. Once you get the curl in shake your head out and your long bob will have great texture and style just like you have a expensive hair dresser to give you the hottest looks.

Hottie Hair: Las Vegas; Getting Curls That Will Stay In Your Hair

Have you ever spent hours curling your hair and the minute you leave the house the curl just comes right out and you are left with the look of straight hair that needs to be combed? For some people the curls just will not stay in their locks and putting too many styling products on the hair to keep it place just makes it stiff and untouchable which nobody wants hair like that. If you truly want great curls without having to use too many styling products then take a good look at your curling iron since that is probably a large part of your problem.

Cheap drugstore curling irons are actually not very good at heating up evenly throughout the blades and this means that your hair will curl at different rates based on how hot each spot is. In the areas on the blade that are not as hot the hair will not curl as effectively as in the warmer areas. This means your hair will look curled when in actuality it is only partially curled. For truly great looking curls that will stay once you are done using your iron you should consider spending just a bit more for a professional ceramic curling iron which heats up evenly for effective curling.
